Table 2 (a) and (b) is run over 2 rounds. In the first round, your only consideration is to have a clear round with no rails or refusals within the time allowed. All horses with no faults go on to a shortened jump-off course, which can either be immediate (2(a)) or delayed (2(b)). In the jump off, your goal is to be the fastest while keeping all of the rails up.
Power and Speed is a class that is run over a single course with the jump off incorporated into the second half. The first phase (consisting of 4-5 jumps is the power phase. If a horse goes clean through the power phase they then continue over the next 4-5 fences in the course for speed. After each horse has completed the last jump of the first phase, the judge will determine whether they are allowed to continue. If no bell or whistle sounds, the horse is to continue on to the next jump. If a bell or whistle sounds, the horse must stop and exit the ring.
Time allowed is the time in which you may complete your course without incurring any faults. For each second over the time allowed, 1 fault is assigned.
Clean (no fault) rounds will place ahead of the competitors who obtain faults during their course.
Faults: Rails knocked down equal 4 faults. Refusals are 3 faults. Circling- any form of circle or circles whereby the horse crosses its original track is 3 faults. Separating from your mount between the start timer and the finish timer will result in a disqualification. Jumping an incorrect pattern will result in disqualification.
